Biography

Gerardo Dottori was a landscape painter (mainly of the landscapes of Umbria), poet and author of Futurism. He studied in his native city of Perugia. In 1912, he joined the Futurist movement to become their first painter to exhibit at the Venice Biennale. In 1920 he co-founded the magazine "Griffa" and from 1926 through 1939 he worked as a journalist in Rome. In 1929, he was one of the signees of the "Manifest of Aeropainting". Ten years later, he was appointed professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, acting as its director from 1940 to 1947. As a poet, he often used the pseudonym G. Voglio during World War I.
