Biography

Franz Donth was an ethnic German, who competed for the Hauptverband Deutscher Wintersportvereine der Tschechoslowakischen Republik (Central Federation of German Winter Sports Associations of the Czechoslovak Republic). He had two top-15 finishes at the 1928 Olympic Winter Games (11th and 14th). Donth was more successful at the early World Championships, which were held, however, with limited attendance of Scandinavian athletes. At the 1927 World Championships, Donth won a silver medal in the 18 km race and a bronze medal in the 50 km. Two years earlier, when the Worlds were held in Czechoslovakia, he won the 50 km and was second in the 18 km. He competed a third time in 1929 making the top-10 in both races. He also took the national title in the 50 km in 1925 and 1927. He worked as a lumberjack.
