Diane Dixon was a 400-metre runner who competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, winning 4x400 relay medals both years, with a gold in 1984 and a silver in 1988. Dixon also earned two 4x400 medals at the World Championships, with a silver in 1991 and a bronze in 1987. She made the final of the open 400 at the World in 1987 and 1991, placing seventh and eighth, respectively. A top indoor runner, Dixon won the World Indoor title in the 400 in both 1985 and 1991, and took silver in 1991. Internationally she added a gold medal at the 1987 Pan American Games in the 4x400 relay.
Domestically, Dixon won the US title in the 400 in 1986 and won the 1988 US Olympic Trials. She was second at the US Championships in the 400 in 1985 and 1987, and also was second in the 200 in 1988.
Dixon, who graduated from The Ohio State University, became a marketing specialist for an engineering firm. In 2001 she was named Special Assistant for Recreation & Physical Fitness Programs with the New York City Board of Education. Dixon was inducted into the Millrose Games Hall of Fame in 1999.
