Edgard Derouet initially was a photo engraver because his parents prevented him from studying art. He later worked as an illustrator and poster creator, especially for hairdressers and perfumeries. In World War II he worked for the fascist Vichy government and the German film industry. In 1945 he designed the posters for the French version of the Charlie Chaplin film “The Gold Rush.”
