In 1971, Deena Deardurff won the 100m butterfly at the Pan-American Games and won both the indoor and the outdoor title at the AAUs. At the München Olympics she missed out on a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly by a narrow margin, but won a gold medal and a share of a world record in the medley relay. Later, as Mrs. Robert Schmidt, she coached age group swimmers in San Diego and competed in masterâs events. |
