Biography

Swiss Jean-Louis Clerc was a painter, illustrator, cartoonist, journalist and writer. In 1925-27 he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Genève and in 1928-29 continued his studies at the Tekniska och Högre Konstindustriella Skola in Stockholm. Later, he worked in various European countries, from 1935 in Zürich and, after 1944, in Lausanne mainly for various periodicals. He was also one of the most prolific designers of the fashion label Hermès, producing many scarfs for the company. Clerc was influenced by the work of French artist Raoul Dufy, who painted numerous equestrian water color and oil pieces.
