Josephine Cheesman was a furnishing fabrics designer, mainly working for the manufactory Turnbull & Stockdale near Manchester. The company was one of the most artistically adventurous manufacturers of the 1930s. Josephine Cheesman worked with Hans Aufseeser, son of graphic designer [Ernst Aufseeser], to produce textile design in combination with mosaics, tapestries and book jackets.
