Ice hockey forward Charles âCharlieâ Brooker spent his junior years with the Waterloo Hurricanes of the Ontario Hockey Association from 1950 through 1952, but had previously excelled at bantam hockey in his native Toronto. In 1952 he joined his first senior team, the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen, and played with them for six consecutive seasons, until 1958. Along the way he won two Allan Cups, given annually to the Canadian senior menâs ice hockey champions, in 1953 and 1955 and assisted the Stratford Indians for five playoff games in 1957. After their second Allan Cup victory the Dutchmen were invited to represent Canada at the 1956 Winter Olympics and Brooker went with them. At the tournament he played in five matches, scored three goals, and took home an ice hockey bronze medal for his country. After his tenure with the Dutchmen he took a long hiatus and resurfaced in 1961 for two seasons with the Waterloo Tigers (known as the Kitchener-Waterloo Tigers for the second year). Although he retired from active play in 1963 he was nominally a player/coach for the Olympia Ice Hockey Club of Belgium during the 1966-1967 season, although he did not actually play in any games. His name was placed on the Waterloo Hockey Wall of Fame in October 2009.
