Dieter Bogatzki was a graduate economist, who later worked at the Volkswagen group in Wolfsburg. In his active career he was German Champion in the 1965 indoor 800 meters and was part of the 1966 world record relay team in the 4×800 (7:08.6 minutes together with [Manfred Kinder], [Walter Adams], and [Franz-Josef Kemper]). At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics he placed seventh over 800 metres. His brothers Ernst (sprinter) and Hans (pole vaulter) were reasonable track and field athletes as well.

Personal Best\: 800 – 1:46.5 (1966).
