Biography

Toni Biersack was a member of the West German ice hockey team that finished sixth in the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. He played for SC Riessersee between 1948-59, and won the West German Championship in 1950. He later played for SG Nürnberg in the second league, and EHC Ehrwald, whom he also coached.

The finest moment of his career was in finishing second to Sweden in the 1953 World Championship final, which was West Germany’s best ever finish at the Worlds. In total Biersack won 39 international caps and in 1989 was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame. Biersack owned a taxi company in Riessersee and later built up a limousine service company in München. His grand-nephew Tobias Biersack was also a West German international ice hockey player.
