Biography

At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, the German water polo team beat Romania 8-4 in the qualifying game, but then lost all three matches in the group stage against Hungary, Soviet Union and Egypt, and was eliminated. The goalkeeper in Helsinki was Emil Bildstein, who also played at the 1956 Melbourne and the 1960 Rome Olympics, when the West Germans were placed sixth on both occasions. In 1954 and 1958 he also played in the European Championships. In West Germany he played for SV Ludwigsburg 08 and München 99. After his playing career he went to Japan as a development worker in 1963.
