Biography

Bruce Beall had a long career in international rowing for the United States, first competing at the 1971 Pan American Games, where he won a silver medal in the eights. Beall rowed at the University of Washington and after graduation began coaching the Huskies freshman crew team in 1974. He kept rowing, however, competing for the US at the 1973 European Championships in the coxed pairs, the 1974 World Championships in the coxless fours, and the 1979 Pan Ams, where he added a bronze medal in the quad sculls.

In 1975 Beall moved to Boston University as the freshman crew coach. He later coached the Harvard lightweight crew team and then was head coach at MIT. Beall then returned to the west coast to coach the U Cal Berkeley crew teams. He finally settled back in Seattle as the executive director and head coach of the Pocock Rowing Center.
