Germany had two eights compete in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic regatta, one from Berliner Ruderverein from 1876, winning the bronze medal, and one from Sport Borussia Berlin. Both rowed against each other in the second heat of the quarter-finals, and Sport Borussia Berlin lost the race. Fritz Bartholomae was on the bronze medal-winning boat, together with his brother Willi. Both were also German Champions with the eights in 1910 with Spindlersfelder Ruderverein, and they were third in 1911. In 1912 the Berliner Ruderverein von 1876 shell won the German title, and in 1913 they came in third.

During World War I, Fritz served in the 3. Kompanie of the Garde-Reserve-Schützen-Bataillon. He was killed in action during World War I in September 1915, while his regiment was stationed at Pixtern in Kurland, Latvia.
