Biography

Stacey Augmon played college basketball for UNLV, where he developed his reputation as one of the great defensive players in basketball. He was named college defensive player of the year for three consecutive years (1989-91). Augmon helped UNLV to the 1990 NCAA title, and the 1991 NCAA Final Four, where they entered undefeated, but were upset by Duke.

In 1991 Augmon was the 9th pick of the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. In his rookie season he was named to the NBA All-Rookie team. Augmon had a long NBA career, playing through the 2005/06 season. He was with the Hawks from 1991-96, then played with the Detroit Pistons in 1996-97, the Portland Trail Blazers in 1997-2001, and the Charlotte / New Orleans Hornets in 2001-04. He finished his career with the Orlando Magic in 2004-06.

After he retired from basketball, Augmon started coaching, serving as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets from 2007-11, and then as an assistant at his alma mater, starting in 2011. He is a member of the UNLV Athletic Hall of Fame.
