Tadeusz Adamowski was born when his parents, American immigrants from Poland, made a trip to Europe. He came from a family of musicians. He later attended Harvard and graduated in economics, where he started to play hockey. When he visited Poland in 1925, he joined the ice hockey team of AZS Warszawa, winning five consecutive Polish Championships with them from 1927-1931. During this time, he also acted as a player-coach including the 1928 Olympic Winter Games. In St. Moritz, he was coach, player (forward), and captain of the Polish team. In 1929, Adamowski won a silver medal at the European Championships, adding another one in 1931, when the Europeans were part of the World Championships. He played at three World Championships and three separately held European Championships. In total, he represented Poland in 40 international matches scoring 16 goals. In 1930, he played in a European selection against Canada.

While in Poland, Adamowski worked for the General Motors office and later for the Gdynia-America Shipping Lines.During World War II, he served in the Polish Army and was taken prisoner by the Germans, spending the whole war in a POW camp in Woldenburg. After the war, he returned to the United States, where he worked for UNICEF. His sister Halenka Pantaleoni, an actress, founded the US Fund for UNICEF.
