More Updates to WCBB Data
Posted by Mike Lynch on January 24, 2025
A couple of months back we made a huge update to our Women's College Basketball data, extending coverage of D-I all the way back to the first year of NCAA play in 1981-82. The data generally did not include minutes played, games started, offensive/defensive rebounds, turnovers or personal fouls. Additionally, coverage of blocks and steals was very limited from 1981-82 through 1986-87.
At the time, we indicated that we would look to expand upon this data as we're able. While the sheets provided to the NCAA for calculating national leaderboards did not include such data, many schools did track those categories and so the information is often available if you dig around the right places.
This being the case, we are happy to announce that we've added statistics in many of these categories for some USC legends (including Cheryl Miller, Tina Thompson, Pam McGee, Paula McGee, Lisa Leslie and Cynthia Cooper) and also for all Tennessee players since 1981-82. The Tennessee data includes legends such as Bridgette Gordon, Nikki McCray, Michelle Marciniak, Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings and Kara Lawson. Additionally, we found some data to flesh out our coverage of Kim Perrot and Wanda Pittman (who blocked an astounding 668 shots from 1983-84 through 1986-87, before the NCAA officially produced blocked shots leaderboards in women's basketball).
