Pick Six Passers Added to 1970

Posted by Mike on February 1, 2016

Thanks to our own research plus that of some helpful users (and especially to Rasmus Pianowski for doing a ton of research), we now know who threw every pick-six between 1970 and 2015, which lets us put up single season and career leaderboards as well as pick six logs (linked from the player headers) similar to the touchdown logs noting the game situation, returner, and more for every pick six thrown. Hopefully in the offseason we can extend this list back further but for now enjoy exploring 45 years worth of data.

The September 24, 1972 pick-6 was thrown by Charley Johnson. Gamebook here. The play-by-play leaves out Johnson's name on the pick-6, but it's clear from the statistics (Ramsey's three interceptions are detailed, as are Johnson's two other interceptions) that Johnson threw the pass.

The September 24, 1978 pick-6 was thrown by Dan Fouts. The play can be seen here.

That is awesome, thanks so much for that! I especially love the Cosell-narrated video, that just made my morning.

Can confirm the 9/24/72 pick was definitely thrown by Johnson - finally found This Week in Pro Football from that week which confirms it.

You guys are great, thanks again. I have 125 more of those games with a pick six and more than one QB from 1960-1969 that I need to put together a form for at some point & that will cover all of the years for which we have player gamelogs.
