BBR: PI+ Plus/Minus Finder

Posted by Neil on March 21, 2012

By popular demand, we have added a Player Plus/Minus Finder to the Basketball-Reference Play Index+. This new tool allows you to search through thousands of game logs to find the player whose team had the best offensive rating, best defensive rating, and best net rating while the player was on the floor (plus much, much more). For example, here are the raw +/- leaders (minimum 10,000 minutes) since 2001:

Love that. Thank you very much!

  2. Jake Says:

    Thanks so much.

One question, is this plus/minus the +/- that is on court net minus teams on court net off the court? If not, how do you do that?

Is there a way to see who had the best net rebounding differential on the court, assists, etc.?

This is amazing! It's fun to browse around, but more importantly it's becoming easier to get play by play quality information without leaving your browser or setting up a database. Now it's up to the all stars of the NBA stats community to show off with these tools we have

  4. Crow Says:

Should be helpful. Too bad you can't currently select any "advanced stat" as a criteria.

  5. Crow Says:

And you can't select a +/- performance level as a criteria either.

  6. Mike G Says:

If 4 of the top 6 are starters for the Spurs, that suggests their bench wasn't nearly as good as their starting lineup.

But there at #10 is Robert Horry, who almost exclusively came off the bench in this era. So it seems he must have played alongside mostly starters.

And he was apparently more effective than the nominal starters: Nesto, Hedo, Nazr, Elson, Oberto, ..

Why doesn't the per 48 minute function work in the plus/minus finder? I can't do anything with per 48 minutes.

  8. Justin Kubatko Says:

@Jj6: Sorry, that should be fixed now.
