  1. Hartvig Says:

Among his comps that are actually third basemen- Ramirez, Beltre, Williams, Cey and Ventura- Castilla would rank a fairly distant sixth place. Ventura was the best of the bunch and he was one and done so if Castilla hits the 5% necessary to move forward it means that at least 5% of the baseball writers voting have absolutely no clue as to how the game is played.

  2. Lonestarr Says:

Another somewhat surprising 300 HR club guy, but not Hall-worthy.

  3. TJay Says:

Rays fan here. I was aghast when they signed him after the 1999 season.
Thereafter referred to as "Vinny Cash-Stealer". Coors park effect to the Max.
    No chance for the Hall.

  4. Joe Garrison Says:

While I am sure he is able to get a free drink in Denver anytime he wants, I really don't see him getting a free pass into the HOF.

Look at his record away from Coors....

  5. jimmy Says:

Had his best numbers by far at Coors Field. No.

  6. JohnBoy Says:

    A word... "No."

  7. hiflew Says:

I am a huge Rockies fan and I am just happy to see Vinny on the ballot. He is not a Hall of Famer, but I do hope he gets at least 1 vote. He deserves at least 1 vote.

  8. EAJ Says:

Vinny was a great player he had 7 great seasons may i remind you without the use of banned substances (STEROIDS) he deserves to be in there. How is a player using steroids named the NL MVP (Ryan Braun) and a guy who had 7 great seasons no matter where he did better and also did it FAIRLY not going to be named to Cooperstown! Vinny you deserve it!! One of the best 3rd baseman defensively i have ever seen!!

  9. Blake Walker Says:

    Seven great seasons?

He had ONE great season (98) and four other I'd call above average (which is not a knock). Overall, 1/3 of his seasons were good+ and the other 2/3s were clearly below average. He was a pretty peak with too much valley.

Most players never have the career VC had -- not even close -- but it wasn't special, historically-speaking. Nice comeback in 04, but he was done after 98.

    It's not a slap not be HOF-worthy.

  10. pageup Says:

    Not even close

  11. JIMMYV Says:

It's tough judging guys that had the ball park advantage... a Hall of Famer named Chuck Klein put up all his big numbers in a small part called the Baker Bowl and did little elsewhere.. Hank Aaron an all time great no matter where he played, was helped by the Launching Pad in Atlanta.... but Castilla does not have the years or the career numbers for the HOF....

  12. gringoculto Says:

He was a very good, occasionally great player for seven years....that s it.
Better then the overwheming majority of players, but not a HOF player....not even close...

Ron Santo was elected....the best all around third baseman in MLB for about 10 years....and it took 32 years after his retirement for baseball to finally recognize him.

Before Vinny Castillo in the HOF I would think about a whole lot of third basemen and Im not saying any of them SHOULD be in the HOFer or that they were equally disrespected as Santo was...but almost any of the would be a beter choice then Castillo....
