Overview

The 1998 ski jumping events were held in the town of Hakuba, at the Hakuba Ski Jump Stadium, built specifically for the 1998 Olympics, with a spectator capacity of 45,000. The normal hill in 1998 had a K-point of 90.0 metres while the large hill’s K-point was at 120.0 metres. There was no change in the program since the 1994 Winter Olympics, with three events – individual normal hill, individual large hill, and team large hill. There was a slight change in the format in the individual events. Previously, all jumpers had taken two jumps, but beginning in 1998, only the top 30 jumpers in the first round advanced to the final round of jumping. The top jumper in 1998 was Japan’s Kazuyoshi Funaki who won gold on the large hill and team event, and a silver on the normal hill.
