Overview

The Winter Games returned to the classic Sankt Moritz track after a gap of twenty years. The track retained the same basic configuration as in 1928 but, since the natural track is rebuilt every winter, comparisons between the two Olympics are not strictly relevant. Although international competition only resumed, after an eight year break, in 1947 nine countries sent teams to Sankt Moritz, including a first entry for Scandinavia in the shape of Norwegian two and four man teams and the return of Argentina after a twenty year gap. Germany would not return to the world scene for another three years
