Triathlon was centered around Hyde Park in central London, with the open-water swims held there in The Serpentine, the cycling racing seven laps of a 6+ km course within the park, and the run held within the park confines over four laps of a 2½ km course. There were again two events, individuals for men and women. The women’s race produced one of the closest finishes in triathlon history, as the Swiss [Nicola Spirig] defeated Sweden’s [Lisa Nordén] by less than 1/100th of a second. The men’s race was a celebration for the huge British crowds watching it, as the Brownlee brothers, [Alistair] and [Jonathan], won the gold and bronze medals respectively.
