Overview

For the first time since 1976, there was no change in the Olympic cycling program. The men contested eight track events – kilometer time trial, match sprint, individual pursuit, team pursuit, and points race, keirin, Madison, and Olympic sprint; two road events – individual mass start race, and individual time trial; and a cross-country mountain bike event. The women contested four track events – 500 metre time trial, match sprint, individual pursuit, and points race; two road events – individual mass start race, and individual time trial; and a cross-country mountain bike event. The track events were held at the indoor Olympic Velodrome, with a 250 metre all-weather wooden-surfaced track. Mountain biking was held at the Parnithi Mountain Bike Centre. The mass start road races were conducted in the streets of Athina, circling the Akropolis, while the road time trials were held at the Vouliagmeni Olympic Centre.
