The Spanish team of [Fernando Léon] and [José Luis Ballester] never won a race in Savannah, and had a premature start disqualification in race nine, but they were consistent and built up such a big lead that they did not have to start the final race to win the gold medal. Bronze medal skipper [Lars Grael] had also won a bronze in this class in 1988. His brother, [Torben Grael], won the Star gold medal in Savannah, one of five Olympic medals he would win in sailing, an Olympic best, although equalled by Britain's [Ben Ainslie] and Brazil's [Robert Scheidt].
