Boris Becker and Michael Stich were two of the top singles players in the world, but they rarely played doubles together, having won only one doubles tournament, that coming in April 1992 in Monte Carlo. In the final they faced South Africa’s Wayne Ferreira and Piet Norval, winning in four sets. Ferreira and Norval were the first South Africans to win an Olympic medal since 1960, with South Africa having been banned from the Olympic Movement from 1964-1988.
