Six sport shooters advanced to the final round. Pavel Kubec (TCH) led the prelims with 196, while the other five finalists had 195. But Kubec fared poorly in the final and eventually placed only fifth. His teammate Petr Hrdlička and Japan’s Kazumi Watanabe missed only one bird in the final to tie for first at 219. In the shoot-off, Watanabe missed the first bird and when Hrdlička was successful, the gold medal was his. Kubec tied for third with Marco Venturini (ITA) and Jörg Damme of Germany, but Kubec went out in a shoot-off. Venturini and Damme tied with 23 of 25 clays after the shoot-out and continued on. In the second round, Damme missed the ninth bird, giving the bronze medal to Venturini.
