Summary

This was a huge group with 31 wrestlers which required seven rounds to finish Group A. As with several other divisions in 1988 Greco-Roman it was difficult to choose a favorite as no dominant wrestler came into Seoul. The group winners were Soviet Levon Julfalakyan and Korean [Kim Seong-Mun]. Julfalakyan had won the Worlds and Europeans in 1986 but not done much since, while Kim was completely unknown. Julfalakyan had his way in the final, winning the gold medal on decision, 9-3. The bronze medal went to Tapio Sipilä of Finland, the silver medalist in 1984.
