Ken Flach and Robert Seguso were the top-ranked doubles team in the world. Together they won 29 doubles championships and four Grand Slam titles – 1985 US Open, 1987 French Open, and 1987-88 Wimbledon. The final in Seoul matched them agains Spain's Emilio Sánchez and Sergio Casal. The Americans won the first two sets, but the Spaniards fought back to take the match to five sets, before losing, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7, (1-7), 9-7.
