Summary

Two days earlier Nino Salukvadze (URS/GEO) had won the air pistol, with Jasna Šekarić (YUG) winning a bronze medal. In sport pistol, Salukvadze led Šekarić after the prelims with 390-389. But Šekarić outshot her in the final 100.5 to 97.9 to win the gold medal. The two best female pistol shooters of their era, they would compete at the Olympics thru 2008.
