Hellmann took the lead early with 71.84 (235-8½) in round one and was never overtaken. She improved to 72.30 (237-2½) in the fourth round, which she needed for the gold, when her teammate Diana Gansky, 1986 European Champion, threw 71.88 (235-10) in round five.
