Summary

The 1983 and 1987 World Champion was [Greg Foster], but he had broken his forearm shortly before the US Trials and failed to make the team. Although he had missed much of the 1985-87 seasons with injuries, defending gold medalist [Roger Kingdom] was back, having recovered his form, being undefeated in the early 1988 season. He was expected to be challenged by the silver and bronze medalists from the 1987 Worlds, Britain’s [Jon Ridgeon] and [Colin Jackson]. But the final was no contest. Kingdom ran 12.98, only the second time below 13 seconds at low-altitude, to defend his Olympic title and won by three metres over Jackson.
