Summary

The 1982 World Champions were Canadians Sharon Hambrook and Kelly Kryczka, who had comfortably defeated Tracie Ruiz and Candy Costie (USA) in Guayaquil, Ecuador. But Ruiz and Costie had won the 1983 Pan-American Games, although Hambrook and Kryczka did not compete at that meet. The two North American pairs dominated the event, with Ruiz and Costie winning a fairly close competition. Ruiz returned a few days later to win the solo event.
