| Gold: | Seo Hyang-Sun |
| Silver: | Li Lingjuan |
| Bronze: | Kim Jin-Ho |
The favorite was Korean Kim Jin-Ho, who had won the World Championship in 1979 and 1983. The competition was very close but Kim’s teammate Seo Hyang-Sun had the best of it in the second round to win the gold medal in an upset, with China’s Li Lingjuan edging out Kim for the silver medal. The 35th-place went to New Zealand’s Neroli Fairhall, a paraplegic who competed while seated in a wheelchair. Fairhall had become paralyzed from a motorcycle accident and then turned to archery, winning a gold medal in 1982 at the Commonwealth Games.
