Summary

The 1959 World Championships proved a superb form guide for the 1960 Olympic Games.

At those Championships [Bruno Habārovs], a Latvian representing the Soviet Union, took the title ahead of Great Britain’s [Allan Jay] with [Giuseppe Delfino], silver medallist at Melbourne, taking the bronze.

Delfino had come within one hit of becoming Olympic champion in 1956 but this time he found himself in the opposite position and needed a crucial sudden death hit to force a barrage against Jay.

The Italian then claimed the title by defeating the Englishman by a score of 5-2.

Habārovs also needed a barrage to claim the final place on the podium.
