Overview

The program was the same as in 1936. The track events were the kilometer time trial, match sprint, tandem match sprint, and the team pursuit, and were held at the Herne Hill Velodrome. The velodrome was an asphalt surface, and was quite slow, which led to sluggish track times. The road event was conducted as a mass start race of 194.633 km. The team road race consisted of four riders on each team, the best three times to count towards the team time.
