The Star class, a two-person keelboat, had been added to the Olympic Program in 1932, and would remain on it through 2008, although it was left off in 1976 also. The German team, aboard Wannsee, won five races, winning the first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh races to capture the gold medal. They had clinched the gold medal after the sixth race. The Swedish crew, racing Sunshine, won the second race and led the competition briefly but fell back to the silver medal eventually.
