The Asian teams of Japan and Afghanistan were slightly disadvantaged, as they were placed in first round pools that only allowed the winners to advance, while the third pool - entirely filled with European countries - had two qualifying spots. This allowed the French team to advance to the semi-finals with only a single victory under their belt. The Indians, with a clean sheet after three matches, demolished them 10-0. In the other semi-final, Germany avenged their 1928 loss against the Netherlands. The Germans managed a good first half against India in the final, with the first goal being scored only shortly before the break. In the second part, India got in gear and scored seven times.
