Summary

In May 1928 Emil Hirschfeld broke the world record set by Ralph Rose in 1909, with a mark of 15.79 (51-9¾). He competed well in Amsterdam, coming within 7 centimetres of the record, but it earned him only a bronze medal. In first place, America’s Johnny Kuck broke Hirschfeld’s record in round five with 15.87 (52-0¾). Herman Brix had put 15.75 (51-8¼) in round one to lead until that time. Brix would later change his name to Bruce Bennett and appeared in multiple movies, including several roles as Tarzan.
