August Ringvold, Sr. skippered the Norwegian boat to victory in a similar event at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp although the glory was tempered by the fact that, as the only entrant in the class, his win had come via walkover. He returned in 1924 with an all-new crew that included his son, August Ringvold, Jr., but at first they struggled with the light wind conditions that prevailed in the early races. When the wind picked for the final of the three qualifying races so did the performance of the Norwegians and they won each following race by an increased margin.
Great Britain and France finished level on points but the British won the silver medals because of their better performances in the three qualifying races.
