| Gold: | Percy Hodge |
| Silver: | Pat Flynn |
| Bronze: | Ernesto Ambrosini |
In 1920, the steeplechase was still not always contested at major meets. It had not been run at the 1919 Inter-Allied Championships. The race was run on the grass just inside the cinder track. Ernesto Ambrosini led the first lap, but Percy Hodge then took over and ruined any suspense. He quickly had a 100-metre lead and won by approximately the same margin. Hodge had been AAA champion in 1919 and 1920 and would defend that title in 1921.
