Summary

Seven wrestlers started as bantamweights but the favorite was Jack Niflot who was AAU Champion in 1901-03. Niflot won the title by winning all three of his matches by falls, pinning Gus Wester at 1:58 of the final. There was apparently a secondary tournament for the bronze medal, although the records of it are not known, but bronze was won by Louis Strebler, whose name was unknown for over 100 years, as he was originally listed as Z. B. Strebler. In 1905 Niflot moved up in class and was the AAU featherweight champion. He later became a professional wrestler, and then a wrestling coach and referee. Strebler also wrestled as a featherweight at the 1904 Olympics, losing his only match in that class by fall.
