Date Started: June 15, 1900
Date Finished: June 15, 1900
Format: Round-robin pool, one-touch bouts. Contestants qualified for this event by finishing in the top four in the épée for amateurs or the épée for professionals.
The top four finishers in the individual épée for amateurs and for masters qualified for this event, which was conducted as a single round-robin pool. Ramón Fonst (CUB) had won the amateur event and France’s Albert Ayat the masters’ event, and it came down to those two here as well. Ayat won by going undefeated, with his victory over Fonst the determining factor, as Fonst won all his other matches. This is the only time this event has been on the Olympic Program.
