Gordy Wren was a Colorado native who served in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II, and represented the Eskimo Ski Club at the 1948 Winter Olympics. In 1950 he won the US Nordic Combined Championship. After the 1948 Winter Olympics, he returned to Colorado until 1954, serving as an instructor at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, where he started several youth skiing programs. From 1955-64 Wren was in Lake Tahoe, where he started the country’s largest junior ski program. In 1964 he moved to the Jackson Hole Ski Area. In 1949 Wren was given the Halstead Trophy for service to Colorado Skiing, and in 1959 received the US Ski Association’s Russell Wilder Trophy for developing youth skiing. He was elected to the US Ski Hall of Fame in 1958.
