Originally an ice hockey player, Winter started running as a teenager. He was successful in the post-War years, winning the Czechoslovakian title three years in a row (1947-1949). He also broke national records on the 1000 m and 4×800 m. He represented his country internationally eleven times, notably in the 1948 Olympics, where he reached the semi-finals. After his career, Winter briefly coached and wrote a book on middle distance running. Personal Best: 800 – 1:53.0 (1948). |
