Biography

As an amateur, Jackie Wilson lost one fight – in the finals of the Olympic Games. Later in 1936, however, he avenged that defeat to Ulderico Sergo of Italy and left the amateur ranks with a record of 50 wins and one loss. His titles had included Golden Gloves championships in New York, Chicago, and Cleveland, and the 1936 AAU flyweight crown. As a professional Jackie Wilson fought for 13 years with moderate success. He took on most of the great fighters of his day Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta among them, but he never fought for a championship, and he retired in 1949 with a final record of 69 wins, 19 losses, and five draws.
