Ulrich Wehling won the Olympic Nordic combined gold medal at the Winter Olympics of 1972, 1976, and 1980, making him one of only three men (Gillis Grafström [FSK] and Georg Hackl [LUG] the others) to win the same individual event three times consecutively at the Winter Games. Wehling’s international career began in 1971 when he won the European Junior title. His major career accomplishments were his Olympic titles, although he won the 1974 World Championship in Nordic Combined as well. He later became an official with the Fédération International de Ski (FIS). |
