Biography

Aged 18, Kåre Walberg was 1931 national junior ski jumping champion, and was selected for the World Championships later in the season where he impressed with a fifth place. His bronze medal at the 1932 Olympics was his best ever international result. After returning home from the Lake Placid Games, he won the junior class at Holmenkollen. In 1933 he had his best national championship result by placing third, and in the following seasons he had several good placements at Holmenkollen and national championships. His ski jumping career was interrupted by the war years 1941-1945, but he came back after the war with some good national results, placing 12th in Holmenkollen as late as 1949. Walberg was born in Hamar and lived there most of his life, working as a typographer.
