Biography

Alfred von Chmielowski was an Austrian stamp artist, painter and graphic artist. He studied from 1916-25 at the Vienna (Wien) Academy of Fine Arts, and then undertook numerous study trips abroad. Von Chmielowski was active artistically especially in terms of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and graphic and painting compositions. He designed the Austrian stamps series Landscapes of 1945/47, and the special edition of the series Never Forget and the 1948 London Olympic Games stamp for Austria (his entry for the Art Competitions).
