Bas van Duivenbode fought in the light-middleweight division at the Rome Olympics, but was eliminated in the second round by Scotsman [Willie Fisher]. Turning pro the next year, he gradually moved into the heavyweight class. In 1971, he twice fought [Rudie Lubbers] for the Dutch heavyweight title, but lost on both occasions. In 1964, Van Duivenbode had been awarded the Dutch light-heavyweight title, based on his fight results. Following his boxing career, Van Duivenbode moved into the trotting horse business. As a horse owner, he was involved in that sport for several decades.
