Andrey Trefilov was the last Soviet top goaltender in 1991 and the first Russian goaltender, from 1992-98. Trefilov began his hockey career in 1990 with Dynamo Moskva, playing there until 1992. With Dynamo Moskva Trefilov won a Soviet title in 1991 and a CIS title in 1992. In 1992 Trefilov joined the NHL Calgary Flames and from 1995-97 played for the Buffalo Sabres. Trefilov played two more seasons in the NHL with the Chicago Black Hawks, then back with the Flames, before playing with Ak Bars Kazan in 1998-99, the Chicago Wolves of the International Hockey League in 1999-2000 and finishing his career in Germany, playing with Düsseldorfer EG from 2000-06. Internationally, besides his two Olympic medals, Trefilov was a 1993 World Champion and 1991 European Champion, also winning bronzes at the 1991 World Championships and 1996 World Cup. |
